State Parks Division

Outdoor recreation is a driving force in New Mexico’s economy and State Parks is a key player. Connected to communities statewide, our 35 state parks are often economic drivers for local businesses, towns, and cities. Many rural communities rely on a state park as a major source of economic development.
New Mexico Forestry Division
• Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department
The New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) Forestry Division was created in 1957 to address the critical needs of our state’s forests and watersheds. In the early years, the Forestry Division focused on regulating timber sales and extinguishing wildfires. Today, the work has expanded to reducing the overgrown trees and brush that act as fuel for future wildfires, identifying invasive insects and epidemics of native insects that lead to mortality and disease, conserving rare plants, and promoting healthy watersheds to ensure clean and reliable water.

Energy Conservation and Management

The Energy Conservation and Management Division (ECAM) is the office leading the state’s charge toward clean energy adoption. ECAM is committed to developing and deploying solutions that will maximize New Mexico’s renewable energy resources and improve energy efficiency and transportation standards.
Mining and Minerals

MMD’s mission is to ensure the responsible utilization, conservation, reclamation, and safeguarding of land and resources affected by mining. By statute , MMD “shall enforce and administer laws and regulations relating to mine safety, coal surface mine reclamation and abandoned mine lands reclamation.” In addition, MMD collects “…information regarding production and value of production, persons employed, mining equipment and methods and any other information as may be reasonably required…”
Oil Conservation

The Oil Conservation Division regulates oil and gas activity in New Mexico. The Division gathers well production data, permits new wells, enforces the division’s rules and the state’s oil and gas statutes, makes certain abandoned wells are properly plugged, and ensures the land is responsibly restored.
